Extension of MU classes to handle new train concepts in EN 15528 (“load interface vehicle infrastructure”).
Scope of the proposed deliverable
Investigate technical aspects of new train concepts which are not covered by the current MU classes specified in EN 15528 for handling of the interface between load limits of vehicles and infrastructure.
Provide technical information to define the content of an amendment or revision of EN 15528. Whatever is reasonable, the existing multiple unit classes shall be amended if necessary and new MU-classes shall be defined in Annex C and corresponding MU-load models shall be developed in Annex E of EN 15528.
The deliverable shall for example take into account the geometrical characteristics of axle distances of single cars (e.g longer cars up to 20 m pivot distance and 10 m inter car pivot distance) and/or articulated train configurations up to 400 m unit length based on train data.
In addition information shall be provided as guidance for train design how to avoid excessive dynamic response on bridges (e.g. max. value for axle load, interruption of equal axle distances within the unit and how).
The extension work of such classes must be based on train data from UNIFE, the investigations will be initiated by ERA in collaboration with CER/EIM and UNIFE.
Purpose and justification of the proposal
FprEN 15528:2015 covers vehicle configurations and parameters, which were available and typical for vehicle generations until recently. In the meantime new vehicle concepts were developed. Examples are trainsets with longer single cars, articulated trains with more vehicle bodies and without powerheads or longer trainsets. All of them are recently not covered the MU classes given in FprEN 15528:2015.
The check of the feasibility to cover such MU-Classes on new bridges (EUROCODE) as well as on existing bridges to be published shall be undertaken
Therefore the ongoing revision of Structural Eurocodes (EN 1990 to EN 1999) by CEN/TC 250 has to be taken into account. Herein, EN 1991-2 “Eurocode 1: Actions on structures — Part 2: Traffic loads on bridges”, the validity of HSLM (High Speed Load Model) is checked and adapted if necessary.
EN 15528 refers to EN 1991-2. Maybe the revised EN 1991-2 will refers to EN 15528 taking the MU-Classes into account.
Nevertheless the mentioned tendency in vehicle design can be taken into account if EN15528 is amended in a timely manner.
